مدتی است که سرم خیلی شلوغ است و از دیر آپدیت کردن وبلاگ عذر میخواهم.

با عرض سلام و خسته نباشید در این پست قسمت هشتم و آخر داستان علی بابا را ترجمه کرده ام اگر به داستانهای هزار و یک شب علاقه دارید بگوئید تا داستان جذاب دیگری را هم ترجمه کنم و همانطور که گفتم این داستان توسط جاناتان اسکات  در سال 1890 به انگلیسی ترجمه شده است و متن کل آن بیش از 3000 صفحه است.

When Morgiana had left off speaking, Ali Baba was so sensible of the great service she had done him, that he said to her, "I will not die without rewarding you as you deserve: I owe my life to you, and for the first token of my acknowledgment, give you your liberty from this moment, till I can complete your recompense as I intend.

هنگامی که مارجیانا سخنانش را تمام کرده بود، علی بابا به حدی از کمک شایانی که مارجیانا در حق او کرده بود آگاه بود که به او گفت: قبل از آنکه به تو پاداشی که درخور تو است بدهم نخواهم مرد؛ من زندگی ام را به تو مدیونم و به عنوان اولین علامت در مورد سپاسگزاری ام (از تو) تا زمانی را که طبق تصمیمی که دارم بتوانم پاداش تو را تکمیل کنم آزادی ات را به تو هدیه میدهم (تا آن موقع کنیز من نیستی).

من توسط تو متقاعد شده ام که آن چهل دزد برای نابودی من نقشه هائی کشیده بودند و خداوند توسط تدابیر تو، من را تا کنون از دست آنها نجات داده است و من امیدوارم که همچنان مرا از نقشه های شومشان حفظ کند و با دفع کردن خطری که من را تهدید میکرد دنیا را از آزار و اذیت آنها و از تبار نفرین شده اشان آزاد کند.

All that we have to do is to bury the bodies of these pests of mankind immediately, and with all the secrecy imaginable, that nobody may suspect what is become of what Abdoollah and I will undertake."

تنها کاری که باید انجام دهیم این است که سریعا بدنهای اینها را که آفت نسل بشرند  دفن کنیم (البته) با نهایت مخفی کاری ای که قابل تصور است تا کسی امکان پی بردن بر آنچه عبد الله و من به عهده خواهیم گرفت را نداشته باشد.

Ali Baba's garden was very long, and shaded at the farther end by a great number of large trees. Under these he and the slave dug a trench, long and wide enough to hold all the robbers, and as the earth was light, they were not long in doing it. Afterwards they lifted the bodies out of the jars, took away their weapons, carried them to the end of the garden, laid them in the trench, and leveled the ground again.

طول باغ علی بابا خیلی زیاد بود و در آخر باغ، چند درخت بلند سایه ای بر آن افکنده بود. در زیر آن درختان علی بابا و غلامش گودالی حفر کردند که به اندازۀ کافی دراز و پهن بود که بتوان تمام (اجساد) آن دزدان را در آن قرار داد. و زمانی که زمین (از نور آفتاب) روشن شده بود آنها دیگر مشغول این کار نبودند (کار کندن گودال تمام شده بود). بعد از این جسدها را از داخل کوزه ها بیرون آوردند، اسلحه ها را از آنها جدا کردند، جسدها را تا ته باغ حمل کردند، در داخل گودال گذاشتند و سر گودال را (بر ریختن خاک بر آن) هموار کردند.

 When this was done, Ali Baba hid the jars and weapons; and as he had no occasion for the mules, he sent them at different times to be sold in the market by his slave.

وقتی این کار تمام شد، علی بابا کوزه ها و اسلحه ها را مخفی کرد و از آنجا که فرصتی در مورد الاغها نداشت آنها را در چند نوبت برای فروش به بازار فرستاد تا غلامش آنها را بفروشد.

 While Ali Baba took these measures to prevent the public from knowing how he came by his riches in so short a time, the captain of the forty robbers returned to the forest with inconceivable mortification; and in his agitation, or rather confusion, at his ill success, so contrary to what he had promised himself, entered the cave, not being able, to come to any resolution how to revenge himself of Ali Baba.

هنگامی که علی بابا مشغول اتخاذ کردن اینگونه تدابیر بود تا نگذارد مردم بفهمند که او چگونه در زمانی به این کوتاهی، تا این قدر ثروتمند شده بود، (در این میان) سردستۀ آن چهل دزد، به وضعی خفت بار که باور نکردنی بود به جنگل برگشت و با عجله یا تا حدی پریشانی ای که در نتیجۀ موفقیت اندکش که کاملا با  آنچه که به خودش قول داده بود مخالفت داشت،  داخل غار شد و قادر نبود که در مورد انتقامی که میخواست از علی بابا بگیرد به نتیجه ای برسد.

The loneliness of the gloomy cavern became frightful to him. "Where are you, my brave lads," cried he, "old companions of my watching, inroads, and labor? What can I do without you? Did I collect you only to lose you by so base a fate! Had you died with your sabers in your hands, like brave men, my regret would had been less!

تنها بودن در آن غار تاریک (و غمناک) برای او ترسناک شده بود. با فریاد گفت: جوان های شجاع من کجائید؟ همراهان قدیمی برای مواظبت از من، برای تاخت و تازها و تلاشها. بدون شما چکار کنم؟ آیا من فقط شما را جمع آوری کردم که تا به یکباره اینگونه از قضا همۀتان را از دست بدهم؟ اگر (واقعا) شما با شمشیرهایتان که در دستتان بود مانند مردانی شجاع مرده بودید اندون من کمتر می بود.

نکتۀ گرامری

در عبارتهای شرطی اگر حرف شرط حذف شود جای فاعل و کلمۀ بعدش عوض میشود از این رو جملۀ

Had you died with your sabers..., my regret would had been less!

در حقیقت به این گونه بود:

If you had died with your sabers…, my regret would had been less!

When shall I enlist so gallant a troop again? I ought not to think of it, before I have taken away the man’s life who killed my friends.

دیگر کی میتوانم گروهی از چنین دلاورانی را به فهرست یاورانم اضافه کنم. الان نباید قبل از اینکه جان آن مرد که دوستانم را کشت بگیرم دیگر در این باره فکر کنم.

(سپس رئیس دزدان پیش خودش خطاب به علی بابا گفت) همان کاری را که به خاطر کمک آن همکار نیرومندت نتوانستم به نتیجه برسانم خودم به تنهائی بر عهده خواهم گرفت و وقتی حسابی بررسی کردم که بتوانم این گنج را از غارت شدن حفظ نمایم آن را در دسترس رئیس و جانشینی جدید بعد از  خودم قرار خواهم داد تا این گنج را برای آیندگان (از ما) نگهداری کند و بر مقدار آن بیافزاید.

This resolution being taken, he was not at a loss how to execute his purpose; but easy in his mind, and full of hopes, slept all that night very quietly.

وقتی که این تدبیر اندیشده شد رئیس دزدان در اینکه چگونه برای این هدفش وارد عمل شود تردیدی به خودش راه نداد. (به جای تردید) آن را راحت گرفت و با امیدی فراوان به آرامی کل شب را خوابید.

When he awoke early next morning, he dressed himself, agreeably to the project he had formed, went to the town, and took a lodging in a khan. As he expected what had happened at Ali Baba's might make a great noise, he asked his host what news there was in the city?

وقتی او فردا صبح زود از خواب بیدار شد لباسش را پوشید در حالی که با پروژه ای که فکرش را کرده بود موافق بود. به داخل شهر رفت و در کاروانسرائی یک اتاق گرفت. از آنجا که پیشبینی کرده بود که آنچه در مورد علی بابا اتفاق افتاده است حسابی همه جا پخش شده باشد از صاحب خانه پرسید که از اوضاع شهر چه خبرهائی وجود دارد.

 Upon which the inn-keeper told him a great many circumstances, which did not concern him in the least. He judged by this, that the reason why Ali Baba kept his affairs so secret, was for fear people should know where the treasure lay; and because he knew his life would be sought on account of it. This urged him the more to neglect nothing to rid himself of so cautious an enemy.

بر این اساس، متصدی میخانه کلی رویدادهای مختلف را تعریف کرد که اصلا به موضوع مورد نظر رئیس دزدان ارتباط نداشت. رئیس دزدان از این رو به این نتیجه رسید که دلیل اینکه علی بابا این کارها را این گونه مخفی داشته است از ترس این بوده است که مبادا مردم بفهمند که گنجها در کجا وجود دارد و اینکه بر اساس این جریان ممکن است کسی دنبال جان او باشد (و او را بکشد). این قضاوت این امر را بیش از پیش در او تقویت کرد که برای رهائی از دست چنین دشمن هشیاری از هیچ چیز غفلت نکند.

The captain now assumed the character of a merchant, and conveyed gradually a great many sorts of rich stuffs and fine linen to his lodging from the cavern, but with all the necessary precautions imaginable to conceal the place whence he brought them.

در این حال، رئیس دزدان صفات یک بازرگان را تقلید کرد (ادای یک تاجر را در آورد) و به تدریج کلی از انواع بارهای گران و کتان ها را از غار به داخل اتاقش برد. البته با رعایت تمال احتیاط های لازمی که قابل تصور بود برای اینکه محلی را که از آن این اشیاء را آورده بود مخفی نگاه دارد.

 In order to dispose of the merchandises, when he had amassed them together, he took a warehouse, which happened to be opposite to Cassim's, which Ali Baba's son had occupied since the death of his uncle.

He took the name of Khaujeh Houssain, and as a new-comer, was, according to custom, extremely civil and complaisant to all the merchants of his neighbors. Ali Baba's son was from his vicinity one of the first to converse with Khaujeh Houssain, who strove to cultivate his friendship more particularly, when, two or three days after he was settled, he recognized Ali Baba, who came to see his son, and stopped to talk with him.

او نام خواجه حسین را برای خودش انتخاب کرد و به عنوان یک تازه وارد به شکلی کاملا شهری و مهربان  – همانطور که آنجا رسم بود – با بازرگانان هم جوارش برخورد کرد. پسر علی بابا که در مجاورت او بود و یکی از افرادی بود که ابتدا با خواجه حسین (رئیس دزدها) که سعی میکرد رفاقتش را با افراد، خیلی گسترش ندهد، سر صحبت را باز کرده بود و وقتی دو یا سه روز بعد از اینکه مستقر شده بود متوجه علی بابا شد که آمده بود پسرش را ببیند و (رئیس دزدها) صحبت کردن با او را متوقف کرد.

 When he was gone, the impostor learnt from his son who he was. He increased his assiduities, caressed him in the most engaging manner, made him some small presents, and often asked him to dine and sup with him; when he treated him very handsomely.

وقتی علی بابا رفت آن مرد دغلباز از پسر علی بابا فهمید که او چه کسی بوده است. (از این رو) دقت و توجه کارش را اضافه کرد به گونه ای بسیار جالب از او دلجوئی کرده (گهگاه) به او هدایای کوچکی میداد و غالبا از او درخواست میکرد که ناهار و شامش را با او بخورد. این در حالی بود که با او به گونه ای بسیار سخاوتمندانه برخورد میکرد.

Ali Baba's son did not choose to lie under such obligation to Khaujeh Houssain, but was so much straitened for want of room in his house, that he could not entertain him so well as he wished; he therefore acquainted his father Ali Baba with his intention, and told him that it did not look well for him to receive such favors from Khaujeh Houssain, without inviting him in return.

پسر علی بابا که در مقابل خواجه حسین تحت آن محذور قرار گرفته بود تصمیم نداشت که به او دروغ بگوید ولی در اینکه به خانه او برود خودش را در محدودیت قرار میداد (زیاد به خانه اش نمیرفت) که در نتیجه او (رئیس دزدها) نمیتوانست آنگونه که دلش میخواهد از پسر علی بابا پذیرائی کند. از این رو پسر علی بابا پدرش را از منظورش با خبر کرد و به او گفت که برایش خوش آیند نیست که خواجه حسین اینگونه به او ابراز مهربانی کند و حال آنکه آنها در عوض (هنوز) او را (به خانه اشان) دعوت نکرده اند.

Ali Baba, with great pleasure, took the treat upon himself. "Son," said he, "tomorrow being Friday, which is a day that the shops of such great merchants as Khaujeh Houssain and yourself are shut, get him to take a walk with you, and as you come back, pass by my door, and call in. It will look better to have it happen accidentally, than if you gave him a formal invitation. I will go and order Morgiana to provide a supper."

 

The next day Ali Baba's son and Khaujeh Houssain met by appointment, took their walk, and as they returned, Ali Baba's son led Khaujeh Houssain through the street where his father lived; and when they came to the house, stopped and knocked at the door. "This, sir," said he, "is my father's house; who, from the account I have given him of your friendship, charged me to procure him the honor of your acquaintance; and I desire you to add this pleasure to those of your favors for which I am already indebted to you."

روز بعد پسر علی بابا و خواجه حسین روی قراری که داشتند یکدگر را دیدند مشغول قدم زدن شدند و وقتی برگشتند پسر علی بابا خواجه حسین را به سمت خیابانی برد که که پدرش در آن زندگی میکرد و وقتی به دم خانۀ علی بابا رسیدند ایستاد و در زد و (به خواجه حسین) گفت: آقا! این خانۀ پدر من است که بنابر گزارشی که از رفاقت با تو به او داده ام من را بر آن داشت که افتخار دوستی با شما را برایش مهیا کنم و من از آنجا که هنوز به شما مدیونم دوست دارم که شما این خوشی را به حساب لطفهائی ( که به من کرده اید) بگذارید.

Though it was the sole aim of Khaujeh Houssain to introduce himself into Ali Baba's house, that he might kill him without hazarding his own life or making any noise; yet he excused himself, and offered to take his leave. But a slave having opened the door, Ali Baba's son took him obligingly by the hand, and in a manner forced him in.

با آنکه این تنها وسیلۀ ارزیابی برای خواجه حسین بود تا خودش را با خانۀ علی بابا آشنا کند تا شاید او را بکشد بدون اینکه زندگی خودش را دچار مخاطره کند یا سر و صدائی تولید کند، با این وجود عذر خواهی کرد و پیشنهاد کرد که مرخص شود. ولی یک نوکر درب را باز کرده بود و پسر علی بابا آماده به خدمت با دستش او را گرفته بود (که به داخل هدایت کند) و به این شکل او را مجبور کرد که به داخل بیاید.

Ali Baba received Khaujeh Houssain with a smiling countenance, and in the most obliging manner he could imagine. He thanked him for all the favors he had done to his son; adding withal, the obligation was the greater, as he was a young man not much acquainted with the world, and that he might contribute to his information.

علی بابا با قیافه ای خندان و به گونه ای  کاملا آماده به خدمت که خواجه حسین میتوانست تصور کند از او استقبال کرد. از خواجه حسین به خواطر تمام لطفهائی که به پسرش کرده بود تشکر کرد و همچنین اضافه کرد از آنجائی که پسرش جوان است و زیاد با دنیا آشنا نیست مسئولیت او بیشتر است و باید پسرش در اطلاعاتی که خواجه حسین دارد با او شریک شود.

Khaujeh Houssain returned the compliment, by assuring Ali Baba, that though his son might not have acquired the experience of older men, he had good sense equal to the experience of many others.

خواجه حسین هم در عوض شروع به تعریف و تمجید کردن نمود بدین گونه که علی بابا را مطمئن ساخت که هرچند فرزندش ممکن است که تجربۀ افراد مسن را نداشته باشد ولی شعور و درک خوبی دارد که در حد تجربۀ افراد بسیار دیگری است.

After a little more conversation on different subjects, he offered again to take his leave; when Ali Baba, stopping him, said, "Where are you going, sir, in so much haste? I beg you would do me the honor to sup with me, though what I have to give you is not worth your acceptance; but such as it is, I hope you will accept it as heartily as I give it."

بعد از آنکه اندکی در مورد مسائل مختلف دیگری صحبت کردند او (خواجه حسین) پیشنهاد کرد که خداحافظی کند (و برود) ولی علی بابا مانع او شد و گفت: با این عجله به کجا میروی . خواهش میکنم به من لطفی کن و شام را نزد من صرف کن هرچند  آنچه تقدیمت میکنم سزاوار شما نیست ولی از آنجا که فقط همین مقدار از دست من بر می آید امیدوارم که همانطور که من از صمیم قلب آنچه دارم به تو میدهم تو هم از ته دل خواهش من را قبول کنی.

"Sir," replied Khaujeh Houssain, "I am thoroughly persuaded of your good-will; and if I ask the favor of you not to take it ill that I do not accept your obliging invitation, I beg of you to believe that it does not proceed from any slight or intention to affront, but from a reason which you would approve if you knew it."

خواجه حسین در جواب گفت: دوستم! من کاملا تحت تاثیر حسن نیت تو قرار گرفته ام و از تو میخواهم که ناراحت نشی از اینکه که من نمیتوانم دعوت مهربانانۀ تو را قبول کنم و خواهش میکنم که باور کن که این (عدم قبول) به اندازۀ سر سوزنی از سر توهین نیست بلکه بدلیل چیزی است که اگر میدانستی (با من) موافقت میکردی.

"It is," answered Khaujeh Houssain, "that I can eat no victuals that have any salt in them; therefore judge how I should feel at your table." "If that is the only reason," said Ali Baba, "it ought not to deprive me of the honor of your company at supper; for, in the first place, there is no salt ever put into my bread, and as to the meat we shall have to-night, I promise you there shall be none in that. Therefore you must do me the favor to stay. I will return immediately."

علی بابا در جواب پرسید: هرچند ممکن است سوال من جسورانه باشد ولی چه دلیلی میتواند در کار باشد؟ خواجه حسین گفت: علتش این است که نمیتوانم غذائی را که در آن نمک باشد بخورم حال خودت قضاوت کن که سر سفرۀ شما چه احساسی میتوانم داشته باشم. علی بابا گفت: اگر علتش تنها همین است این نباید موجب شود که من از افتخار همنشینی با تو هنگام صرف شام محروم شوم. برای اینکه اولا در نان من اصلا نمکی وجود ندارد و قول میدهم که در غذائی که قرار است امشب بخوریم هم نمکی نباشد. از این رو باید این لطف را به من بکنی که بمانی. من الان بر میگردم.

Ali Baba went into the kitchen, and ordered Morgiana to put no salt to the meat that was to be dressed that night; and to make quickly two or three ragouts besides what he had ordered, but be sure to put no salt in them.

علی بابا به داخل آشپزخانه رفت و به مارجیانا گفت که در غذائی که برای آن شب آماده میشود نمک نریزد و سریع دو یا سه عدد راگو در کنار آنچه دستور داده بود درست کند ولی اصلا نمک در آنها نریزد.

Morgiana, who was always ready to obey her master, could not help, this time, seeming somewhat dissatisfied at his strange order. "Who is this difficult man," said she, "who eats no salt with his meat? Your supper will be spoiled, if I keep it back so long." "Do not be angry, Morgiana," replied Ali Baba: "he is an honest man; therefore do as I bid you."

مارجیانا که همیشه آماده بود که از اربابش اطاعت کند دیگر این دفعه از دستش کاری بر نمی آمد یک جورائی از این دستور عجیب نا خرسند بود و گفت: این آدم مشکل پسند دیگر کیست که اصلا در غذایش نمک نمیخورد؟ اگر غذا را برای مدت طولانی نگه دارم خراب میشود. علی بابا در جواب گفت: مارجیانا! عصبانی نشو او یک مرد شریف است از این رو آنچه به تو گفتم انجام بده.

Morgiana obeyed, though with no little reluctance, and had a curiosity to see this man who ate no salt. To this end, when she had finished what she had to do in the kitchen, she helped Abdoollah to carry up the dishes; and looking at Khaujeh Houssain, knew him at first sight, notwithstanding his disguise, to be the captain of the robbers, and examining him very carefully, perceived that he had a dagger under his garment. "I am not in the least amazed," said she to herself, "that this wicked wretch, who is my master's greatest enemy, would eat no salt with him, since he intends to assassinate him; but I will prevent him".

مارجیانا هم اطاعت کرد البته نه با بی میلی بلکه بیشتر کنجکاو بود که این مرد که اصلا نمک نمیخورد را ببیند.  سر آخر وقتی او کارش را در آشپزخانه تمام کرد عبد الله را کمک کرد که غذاها را بالا ببرد و به خواجه حسین نگاه کرد با همان نگاه اول او را شناخت و با وجود تغییر لباسش فهمید که او همان رئیس دزدان است. او را به دقت نگاه کرد و فهمید که او خنجری در زیر لباسش دارد. با خودش گفت: اصلا جای تعجب نیست که این انسان پست و شرور که بزرگترین دشمن ارباب من است نمیخواهد نمک گیر او شود چرا که میخواهد او را بکشد ولی من جلو او را میگیرم.

Morgiana, while they were eating, made the necessary preparations for executing one of the boldest acts ever meditated, and had just determined, when Abdoollah came for the dessert of fruit, which she carried up, and as soon as Abdoollah had taken the meat away, set it upon the table; after that, she placed three glasses by Ali Baba, and going out, took Abdoollah with her to sup, and to give Ali Baba the more liberty of conversation with his guest.

همچنان که آنها مشغول خوردن بودند مارجیانا برای به اجرا درآوردن جسورانه ترین حرکتی که تا به حال تصور شده بود خود را آماده کرد. و تصمیمش را گرفته بود. وقتی که عبد الله برای بردن دسر میوه که او بالا برده بود آمد و به محض اینکه عبد الله غذاها را برد و روی میز چید بعد از آن مارجیانا سه لیوان کنار علی بابا گذاشت و بیرون رفت و عبد الله را هم با خود برد که شام بخورند و به علی بابا فرصت بیشتری برای صحبت کردن با مهمانش داد.

Khaujeh Houssain, or rather the captain of the robbers, thought he had now a favorable opportunity of being revenged on Ali Baba. "I will," said he to himself, "make the father and son both drunk: the son, whose life I intend to spare, will not be able to prevent me stabbing his father to the heart; and while the slaves are at supper, or asleep in the kitchen, I can make my escape over the gardens as before."

خواجه حسین با بهتر است بگوئیم همان رئیس دزدان تصور کرد که دیگر موقعیت دلخواهش را به دست آورده است که بتواند از  علی بابا انتقام بگیرد و با خودش گفت: پدر و پسر را (با شراب) مست میکنم و دیگر پسری که تصمیم دارم زندگی اش را به او ببخشم (او را نکشم) قادر نخواهد بود من را از اینکه به قلب پدرش خنجر زنم باز دارد و وقتی که غلامان علی بابا مشغول شامند و یا در آشپزخانه خوابیده اند میتوانم مانند دفعۀ قبل از وسط باغ فرار کنم.

Instead of going to supper, Morgiana, who had penetrated the intentions of the counterfeit Khaujeh Houssain, would not give him time to put his villainous design into execution, but dressed herself neatly with a suitable headdress like a dancer, girded her waist with a silver-gilt girdle, to which there hung a poniard with a hilt, and put a handsome mask on her face. When she had thus disguised herself, she said to Abdoollah, "Take your tabor, and let us go and divert our master and his son's guest, as we do sometimes when he is alone."

مارجیانا که توانسته بود داخل قصد خواجه حسین قلابی نفوذ کند (کاری کند که او به هدفش نرسد) امکان نداشت که به او برای اجرا کردن نقشۀ شومش فرصتی بدهد از این رو بجای اینکه برود شام بخورد لباس پاکیزه ای به تنش کرد و مانند رقاصه ها روسری مناسبی بر سر کرد دور کمرش کمربندی از نقرۀ زر اندود شده بست و به آن خنجری با دسته آویزان کرد و نقاب زیبائی به چهره اش زد. وقتی بدین گونه لباسش را تغییر داد به عبد الله گفت: دمبکت (طبل) را بیاور و بیا برویم حواس مهمان ارباب و پسرش را به خود معطوف کنیم همانطور که بعضی وقتها که او (علی بابا) تنها است این کار را میکنیم.

Abdoollah took his tabor and played all the way into the hall before Morgiana, who, when she came to the door, made a low obeisance, with a deliberation of drawing the attention, and by way of asking leave to exhibit her skill.

عبد الله دمبکش را گرفت و در طول دالان در مقابل مارجیانا آن را نواخت. وقتی مارجیانا از درب داخل شد برای اینکه حواسها را به خودش جذب کند و رخصت بگیرد که مهارت خودش را به نمایش بگذارد کمی به قصد تعظیم خم شد

Abdoollah, seeing that his master had a mind to say something, left off playing. "Come in, Morgiana," said Ali Baba, "and let Khaujeh Houssain see what you can do, that he may tell us what he thinks of you." "But, sir," said he, turning towards his guest, "do not think that I put myself to any expense to give you this diversion, since these are my slave and my cook and housekeeper; and I hope you will not find the entertainment they give us disagreeable."

عبد الله که دید اربابش میخواهد چیزی بگوید دست از اجرا کشید. علی بابا به مارجیانا گفت: بیا تو و بگذار که خواجه حسین ببیند چکار میتوانی انجام دهی و ممکن است  نظرش را دربارۀ تو بگوید. (سپس) در حالی که رویش را به سوی مهمانش بر میگرداند گفت: خیال نکن که میخواهم به هر قیمتی شده شما این سرگرمی را مشاهده کنی زیرا اینها بردگان من هستند همچنین سر آشپز و خانه دار من و من امیدوارم که سرگرمی آنها برای شما ناگوار نباشد.

Khaujeh Houssain, who did not expect this diversion after supper, began to fear he should not be able to improve the opportunity he thought he had found; but hoped, if he now missed his aim, to secure it another time, by keeping up a friendly correspondence with the father and son; therefore, though he could have wished Ali Baba would have declined the dance, he pretended to be obliged to him for it, and had the complaisance to express his satisfaction at what he saw pleased his host.

خواجه حسین که بعد از شام انتظار این سرگرمی را نداشت، ترسید که شاید نتواند از فرصتی را که تصور میکرد بدست آورده است استفاده کند ولی امید داشت که اگر الان به هدفش نرسد برای اینکه بتواند در زمان دیگر به آن دست یابد ارتباط دوستانۀ خود را با علی بابا و پسرش ادامه دهد. از این رو با آنکه آرزو داشت که علی بابا انجام رقص (توسط آنها) را نپذیرد وانمود کرد که بابت این اجرا از علی بابا ممنون است و (به ظاهر) سعی کرد که موافقت خود را بابت آنچه او برای خورسندی میهمانش تدارک دیده بیان کند

The false Khaujeh Houssain was in the least attentive to her, the rest having seen her so frequently.

عبد الله به محض اینکه دید علی بابا و خواجه حسین صحبتشان تمام شد شروع به نواختن دمبک نمود و همراه آن شروع به نواختن موسیقی کرد و مارجیانا که در اجرایش مهارت زیادی داشت به گونه ای شروع به رقصیدن کرد که تحسین کسانی که نزد او بودند را برانگیخت. خواجه حسین قلابی لا اقل با دقت به او نظاره میکرد (البته) سایر افراد بارها (رقص) او را دیده بودند.

After she had danced several dances with equal propriety and grace, she drew the poniard, and holding it in her hand, began a dance, in which she outdid herself, by the many different figures, light movements, and the surprising leaps and wonderful exertions with which she accompanied it. Sometimes she presented the poniard to one's breast, sometimes to another's, and oftentimes seeming to strike her own.

بعد از آنکه مارجیانا چندین بار به صورت حرکات متناسب و ظریف رقصید خنجر را در آورد و در دستانش نگه داشت و باز شروع به رقصیدن کرد به گونه ای که به شکل های مختلف از قبیل حرکات نرم پرشهای جالب و تلاشهای شگفت آوری که با خود داشت برتری خودش را بر دیگران به نمایش گذاشت. او گهگاه خنجر را به سمت یکی از سینه هایش میبرد و گاه به سمت سینۀ دیگرش و در غالب اوقات به نظر می آمد که گویا میخواهد به خودش ضربه بزند.

سر آخر که گویا از نفس افتاده بود دمبک را از دست عبد الله ربود و با دست چپ آن را گرفت و خنجر را در دست راست خود نگه داشت و طرف دیگر دمبک را جلو آورد  مانند کسانی که از طریق رقص کردن امرار معاش میکنند و سخاوت بینندگان را تمنا میکنند (که به آنها پولی دهند).

علی بابا یک قطعه طلا در دمبک او انداخت و پسرش هم همین کار را کرد و خواجه حیسن که میدید مارجیانا به طرف او می اید کیف پولش را از جیب بغلش در آورده بود تا به او هدیه ای بدهد ولی هنگامی که داشت دستش را داخل کیف می کرد مارجیانا با جرات و ثبات قدمی که زیبنده اش بود خنجر را در قلب او فرو کرد.

علی بابا و پسرش از این عمل شوکه شدند و با صدای بلند فریاد کشیدند. علی بابا گفت: بدبخت بیچاره، برای اینکه من و خانواده ام را نابود کنی ببین چه کار کردی؟ مارجیانا در جواب گفت: داشتم زندگی شما را حفظ میکردم نه اینکه شما را نابود کنم. و سپس در حالی که لباس کسی که خودش را به جای خواجه حسین جا زده بود باز میکرد تا خنجرش را به آنها نشان دهد ادامه داد: اینجا را ببینید. با چه دشمنی داشتید خوش میگذراندید.

 Look well at him, and you will find him to be both the fictitious oil-merchant, and the captain of the gang of forty robbers. Remember, too, that he would eat no salt with you; and what would you have more to persuade you of his wicked design? Before I saw him I suspected him as soon as you told me you had such a guest. I knew him, and you now find that my suspicion was not groundless."

به خوبی به او نگاه کنید و خواهید فهمید که او هم آن بازرگان دروغین روغن است و هم رئیس گروه آن چهل دزد. همچنین به خاطر آورید که نمیخواست با شما نمک بخورد. دیگر چه چیزی دیگری احتیاج دارد که متقاعد شوید که او نقشۀ شومی در سر داشته است. قبل از اینکه او را ببینم به محض اینکه گفتید چنین مهمانی دارید به او مظنون شدم من او را میشناختم و شما هم الان متوجه شدید که بدگمانی من بی اساس نبوده است.

علی بابا که سریعا متوجه شد که مارجیانا برای دومین بار برای نجات جانش احساس مسئولیت کرده بود او را در آغوش گرفت و گفت: مارجیانا من آزادی ات را به تو میبخشم (تو آزادی) و به تو قول میدهم که قدردانی من از تو به اینجا ختم نمیشود و به زودی دلیل بهتری برای صداقت حرفم به تو نشان خواهم داد و آن اینکه تو را به عنوان عروس خودم بر میگزینم (پسرم را به عقدت در می آورم).

Then addressing himself to his son, he said, "I believe you, son, to be so dutiful a child, that you will not refuse Morgiana for your wife. You see that Khaujeh Houssain sought your friendship with a treacherous design to take away my life; and, if he had succeeded, there is no doubt but he would have sacrificed you also to his revenge. Consider, that by marrying Morgiana you marry the preserver of my family and your own."

سپس پسرش را مخاطب ساخت و گفت: پسرم میدانم که تو فرزندی وظیفه شناس هستی و از اینکه مارجیانا همسر تو شود امتناعی نداری میبنی که خواجه حسین   مطابق طرح خائنانه اش دنبال این بود که با تو دوست شود تا زندگی من را نابود کند و اگر موفق میشد شکی نبود که به عنوان انتقام تو را هم قربانی میکرد. ملاحظه کن که با ازدواج کردن با مارجیانا تو با کسی که محافظ خانوادۀ من و خودت بود ازدواج کرده ای.

After this, they thought of burying the captain of the robbers with his comrades, and did it so privately that nobody discovered their bones till many years after, when no one had any concern in the publication of this remarkable history.

پسر که خیلی احساس رضایت میکرد یه این ازدواج رضایت داد نه فقط برای اینکه بخواهد حرف پدرش را گوش دهد بلکه (این کار) با تمایلات او هم سازگار بود بعد از این به فکر افتادند که پیکر رئیس دزدان را در کنار رفقایش دفن کنند و این کار را آنچنان مخفیانه انجام دادند که هیچ کس استخوانهای آنها را کشف نکرد مگر بعد از چندین سال بعد زمانی که کسی دیگر دغدغه ای نسبت به منتشر کردن این واقعه تاریخی مهم نداشت.

بعد از گذشت چند روز علی بابا جشن عروس مارجیانا و پسرش را برقرار کرد با رعایت تشریفات و مهمانی پرخرج و با اجرای رقصهای مرسوم و نمایشها و خوشحال بود که میدید دوستان و همسایگانش که آنها را دعوت کرده بود از انگیزۀ واقعی برای این ازدواج اطلاعی ندارند و آنها که از قابلیتهای خوب مارجیانا بی خبر نبودند بخشندگی و خوش قلبی علی بابا را ستایش میکردند.

بعد از این ازدواج، علی بابا از رفتن به غار دزدان اجتناب کرد همانطور که از زمانی که جسد برادرش کاظم را در حالی که قطعه قطعه دها شده بود از آنجا آورده بود دیگر به آنجا نرفته بود. از این میترسید که غافلگیر شود. او بعد از مردن 37 دزد و رئیسشان احتمال میداد که دو نفر دیگر که از آنها خبری نداشت زنده باشند.

بعد از گذشت سالها وقتی علی بابا دید که آندو برای ناراحت کردن او تلاشی نمیکنند حس کنجکاوی اش موجب شد که سفر دیگری به آنجا داشته باشد البته با رعایت احتیاط های لازم برای ایمنی خودش. او سوار اسبش شد و وقتی دم غار رسید و صدای پائی از مردم یا اسبها نشنید به آن نگریست از اسب پائین آمد و آن را محکم به درختی بست و به مدخل غار نزدیک شد و آن کلمات را ادا کرد: باز شو سسمی. درب باز شد

 He entered the cavern, and by the condition he found things in, judged that nobody had been there since the false Khaujeh Houssain, when he had fetched the goods for his shop, that the gang of forty robbers was completely destroyed, and no longer doubted that he was the only person in the world who had the secret of opening the cave, so that all the treasure was at his sole disposal. Having brought with him a wallet, he put into it as much gold as his horse would carry, and returned to town.

او به داخل غار رفت و با دیدن وضعی که وسائل آنجا داشت به این نتیجه رسید که بعد از خواجه حسین دروغین کسی آنجا نرفته است. وقتی او دنبال متاع هائی برای مغازه اش بود این نکته که گروه چهل دزد کاملا از بین رفته اند و اینکه دیگر شک نداشت که او تنها انسان روی زمین است که راز باز کردن درب غار را میداند باعث ش بداندکه کل آن گنجینه مال شخصی خود اوست. او که کیسه ای همراه خود آورده بود تا آنجا که اسبش میتوانست حمل کند آن را از طلا پر کرد و به شهر بازگشت.

Afterwards Ali Baba carried his son to the cave, taught him the secret, which they handed down to their posterity, who, using their good fortune with moderation, lived in great honor and splendor.

بعدها علی بابا پسرش را به طرف غار برد و آن راز را به او یاد داد که همینطور آنها هم این راز را به فرزندان خود منتقل کردند. کسانی که از این ثروت خوب به شکل اعتدال استفاده کرده با نهایت عزت و شکوه زندگی کردند.
